The power of music…

Can never be underestimated. It has the power to instantly transport you to places long gone or yet to come. It can bring you immense joy or bring you to tears in the darkest place of your heart, sometimes all at the same time.

It seems not everyone can relate to music this way and it’s a shame as I feel that most of my life has a clearly defined sound track, so much so that I hear the opening bars of a song, take Popscene that I just posted for example, and I am taken back to the summer of 1996 at a weekend camp with a youth group i went to. It’s pitch black and I’m in a field by the sea back home pitching a tent with my closets friends from cadets, listening to Blur play live from Mada Vale on Radio 1, laughing and living the moment, enjoying every heartbeat, the start of a great summer and the calm before the proverbial storm.

Sometimes the feelings evoked are so strong you have to avoid the song in question, only coming back to it years later only to have the past come flooding back like a tsunami and you have to struggle to resist the temptations of the past; fresh cuts or burns are hard to explain away and can lead to some very awkward situations.

This is something I would not give up for all the money in the world, it is part of what makes me, me.
